What is Content Marketing?

Published by Fiona McEachran on

Content Marketing has been around for a long time, and although it has been hiding behind other more popular terms recently like “Social Media Marketing”, “Copywriting” and “SEO”, it really is the fuel behind these other marketing terms and tactics.

According to Copyblogger

“Content marketing means creating and sharing valuable content to attract and convert prospects into customers, and customers into repeat buyers. The type of content you share is closely related to what you sell; in other words, you’re educating people so that they know, like, and trust you enough to do business with you.”

If you are serious about content marketing…then you need to be creating and sharing content that is not about you and your services, but is about the interests and passions of your target market.

Many businesses struggle with this concept, but it helps if you look at it in the light of talking with someone in a social situation.  If you only talk about yourself and your properties, then the person interacting with you will likely become bored very quickly, unless they are 100% ready to purchase property services.  This could eliminate 99% of your conversations.

Content Marketing is not about You

So the key is to talk about the topics your prospective customer might be interested in.

This is where Content Marketing Strategy is very important because you need to understand EXACTLY what your target or best customer is interested in.

We do business with people we like and trust, and to be likeable and trustworthy should be an important mission behind your content marketing.

So what Content can build this Trust?

There are many, many options for the content you might want to create for your business.

It all really depends on the type of content your target market likes to consume.

These are your options:

  • Blog articles published on your website
  • Blog articles published on other websites
  • Podcasts
  • Videos
  • Email Marketing including eNewsletters
  • Landing Pages
  • Social Media Content – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn
  • PDF eBooks, Whitepapers and Guides
  • Photos/ Images/ Graphics/ Infographics
  • Apps/ Software Tools

Content Marketing is the best way to differentiate your business from your competitors, and it’s only going to get more important in the future.
